Paintings That Heal(tm) & Children’s Healing Art(tm) ? Right !

Friday, November 16th, 2007

By Brent Atwater If you asked me a year ago if a Painting could physically heal you, I would have said Right?! I even remember when my grandmother at age 100, reminded me of the time when tomatoes were considered to be poisonous. (Don’t think the Ketchsup companies would like that!) So open your mental filters a little, and let me tell you about my journey discovering Paintings That Heal. As a professional artist for over 20 years, I licensed art and my designs. I was tired! I wanted to paint from my heart. After the death of my fiance, my painting ceased! However I received the unexpected gift of “remembering” my intuitive and healing abilities. As a child, I was in the pioneer NC Gifted Student Program (1-12), and my intuitive and psychic abilities were studied by Duke’s pioneer ESP Research team headed by Dr. J B Rhine. So I went back to Duke, and they determined that I am a Medical Intuitive and Healer. I read every healing book I could get my hands on to see if I could “do” the examples and “produce” the required results, I could. So I set about “being” one. Since then, I have worked as an international and scientifically documented Medical Intuitive and Healer. I continue to participate in research to add substance to this “alternative” work. Since I believe there are no coincidences, 8 years later I had lunch with a friend who needed a painting for the cover of the University of North Carolina’s Center for Functional GI & Motility Disorder’s annual report. The commission was to create a painting of a disease, Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS). The concept was SO preposterous, that it struck my fancy. I thought, why not!? I was absolutely SURE that Painting a disease was a one shot deal and ONLY created on a “lark”. I mean, can you imagine asking people to come to a Gallery opening to view diseases, emotional dysfunction and mental disorders? Even further, can you imagine the mind of the artist that actually THOUGHT about creating these? I went to Law school for Pete’s sake. Well, if I’m gonna go out on a limb, I thought, I might as well do it right! I decided the canvas was “the Person”. I said my prayer as I always do before a Healing session, and began. As a medical intuitive I intuitively determined what the disease looked like, so I painted that. Next I was instructed to add specific color, texture, and image whose energies vibrations intensify and amplify the Healing Energies. As the Painting sat drying, my guidance said you’re not finished”. Startled, I ask, what’s left to do? My guidance quickly replied, “paint the Healing Energies to heal that disorder over the original painting”. I figured, since no one but me would know what was happening, I’d give it a try. Then I was intuitively told exactly what essential Healing Energies to channel, direct and infuse into the canvas. What does this accomplish I asked. “The combination of essential Healing Energies mixed with the vibrations of the specific colors, images and textures in the finished Painting, activates the brain to trigger chemicals, and the body’s cellular system to trigger internal frequencies that assists the body in repairing itself”… Hmm, interesting I thought. I painted until I was told by my guidance to stop. Utilizing a “show me” attitude, we decided to scientifically test the IBS Painting to see if it radiated measurable energy. Now being a pioneer in having the Healing Energies and Healing benefits of my Paintings scientifically and alternatively documented was really a leap of faith and trust in the Universe. I felt like the proverbial chicken trying to cross a traditional medical field road. In our initial double blind studies using traditional scientific Biofeedback we documented that in as little time as 5 seconds of exposure to a Painting’s Healing Energies, positive changes occur in the viewer’s physical energy fields. Then we tested over 100 more people before and after their exposure to the Paintings with 2 more technologies: 1. State of the art Gas Discharge Visualization Cameras, used by major medical research centers. The GDV Camera (approx 400 in the world), utilizes state-of-the-art optical technology to photograph an individual’s various energy fields through image sensors that read energy levels from an individual’s fingertips. 2. HeartMath system (used by many Fortune 500 companies and by various departments of the federal government), is an interactive computer-based heart rate variability monitor and real-time pulse wave recording that gives a scientific measure of your physiological readings. These scientific and alternative technologies recorded that positive changes occur in a viewers heart waves (HRV), respiration rates, body temperature and brain waves (EEG) and other vital signs. Changes also occur in the viewer’s subtle energy fields. We even collected video testimonials to accompany the documentation. Paintings That Heal, and Childrens Healing Art literally facilitate Healing! I breathed a sigh of relief! You’re invited to see examples of selected before and after viewer printouts on our site under testimonials. We also discovered that not only were they a healing tool, but the Paintings could also be used as a diagnostic tool. To me, this is absolutely fascinating! Findings continually confirm that people respond to a specific Painting which represents a disorder or issue that was either in their past, or is presently or potentially in their physical body or energy field or in the energy filed of someone very close to them. Some people with multiple diseases or disorders are affected by several of the Paintings. We invite you to our website to determine which ones resonate with you. Why do these work? Each light ray consists of colors that have different wavelengths and vibrational frequencies that affect your mind, cells, and body chemicals differently. By receiving color, texture and image information through our eyes, their frequencies communicate to our brain to direct the various bodily functions to respond accordingly. The movie “What the Bleep *?!” addresses the issues of input, brain directives, and chemical responses. Not only are you what you think, your visual input matters too! Color, texture and pattern energies and vibrational input are constantly working on your cellular and subtle energy bodies at an unconscious level. The principle of dress for success, painting your environment (home and workplace) and decorating an environment to promote well being, all lend credibility to the fact that subliminal visual input effects and affects all of your health systems. Then add channeled and directed essential Healing Energies into each canvas that I use to facilitate healing in my clients, and you get a Painting that Heals. The combination of essential Healing Energies, mixed with the vibrational frequencies of the artwork, all activate physical healing responses in the viewer’s body. What are the benefits of Paintings That Heal & Childrens Healing Art? While some of the Paintings are beautiful, others are not. They all are a Healing Energies “generator” addressing specific needs, and are physically non invasive. They assist and amplify other healing treatments, procedures and prescriptions, and they facilitate ongoing and continuous positive energies and Healing benefits in the environment. These are particularly supportive for indigo, crystal, starseed, psychic kids, children, the elderly, and those in critical, chronic, degenerative, or delicate health situations. To maximize the healing assets of a studio Painting or a Painting that is created just for your needs, it should be placed in a location where you will receive optimum ongoing exposure to the Healing Energies on a daily basis. Once the Painting’s energies become part of an environment, an individual continually benefits from it energetically by means of harmonic resonance. A person’s own energy field will regulate the appropriate amounts of energy that they receive on an ongoing basis. You can not be overexposed. What can one expect when they are exposed to a Painting? At present, there are no specific guarantees regarding a fixed long term timeframe, and specific healing properties. Research results vary with individual situations. We are able to document definite positive changes in an individual’s bio energetic fields, and in their symptoms. With those given results, we hope, to generate more interest in expanding our long term research program for Paintings That Heal. Are Paintings That Heal the same as art therapy? No, just being in the presence of the combination of energies in a Painting is what actually alters and heals the viewer’s physical and energetic body. In contrast, the healing response of art therapy is generated by the patient making a piece of artwork. Art therapy work is not infused with channeled Healing Energies. What does the future hold for these Paintings? We believe that Paintings That Heal will have multiple applications, from therapeutic uses such as screen savers (a client on meds for anxiety attacks, used his Painting as his computer’s screen saver, and was able to reduce and later remove his meds) to medical and healthcare healing decor and public murals. We envision “get well” cards that actually create health! Imagine prints and posters in nursing homes that create a positive atmosphere, or artwork that soothes in hotels, and waiting rooms, or a deck of cards that facilitates a healthier physical body for the user. The Paintings’ uses are almost endless. Wherever there is artwork or a design, or a surface to be painted, the potential for healing is available. Over a year later, the Paintings and Childrens Healing Art still retain the same powerful Healing Energies.I want my art to DO good, as well as BE good!!! Keeping the Prophetic From Turning Pathetic

Thursday, November 15th, 2007

By Michael Tummillo With Pentecostalism being the fastest-growing “brand” of Christianity going these days, many denominational groups find themselves faced with the question of what to do about this heretofore untraditional expression as it springs up more and more often throughout their congregations. Within the House Church movement, the same situation applies. How does your House Church handle the prophetic utterance as it comes forth? How WILL these manifestations be handled as they occur (and they WILL) in the future? Where New Testament Prophecy is concerned, Edification, Exhortation and Comfort are the main ingredients in accordance with 1 Corinthians 14:3, “But everyone who prophesies speaks to men for their edification, exhortation and comfort.” Because we have a personal God who speaks to each of us individually…because Jesus is the King who guides and leads His kingdom…each of us can be certain that He will use prophecy to CONFIRM that which He is already speaking to us. In other words, He won’t speak prophetically through anybody else to tell you it’s time to be a missionary in Africa UNLESS he has already spoken the same thing to you PERSONALLY. Dr. Bill Hamon teaches about the 3 W’s of Decision Making, i.e., the Word, the Will and the Way. Hamon says, “The most accurate method of making sure you do everything in harmony with Heaven is to follow the “Three W’s”: “Determine God’s Word on the matter, His specific Will about it, and His Way to fulfill it. These are like three traffic lights which must all be “green” before we can proceed on our way.” This is good instruction that is quite applicable to one’s handling of the prophetic “word” as well. Another way of putting it is (A) Is it Scriptural? (B) Does the word witness with your spirit? (John 16:13; I John 2:20) and (C) Have all the circumstances lined up? In other words, not everything that seems good is of God. In my own life, when I felt it was time to leave the town I’d lived in for 14 years, after receiving a prophetic word, I can recall my heart nearly beating out of my chest as I awaited one last confirmation - an important phone call - before making my move. When the answer came, with it came a peace that passed all understanding, meaning, it made sense to very few others except me and the Lord. I moved, and in so doing, made the best decision I’d made in decades. I’ve never once doubted that choice. Today, many people are taking an apparent word of prophecy that is spoken by well-meaning, living room “prophets” and, because they aren’t sure what to do next, too often, take the “word’ they received and run with it, only to find themselves trainwrecked later. They may relocate, marry unequally, leave a job…all at the altar of so-called “Prophecy.” On one hand, we have to admire the zeal of the one who believes he/she is prophetically-gifted (though improperly trained) for their willingness to step-out in faith and share what they believe God had placed upon their heart. On the other hand, we cannot fault the improperly-trained recipient of the prophetic word for not knowing what to do with what they were told. TESTING PROPHECY According to 1 Thessalonians 5:19-22, we want to be careful not to put out the Spirit’s fire by disallowing everything prophetic from occurring when we gather. Leaders, trust me, you can’t do it. God WILL have His way. I have been with Church of Christ, Baptist, Nazarene and Catholic individuals who received prophetically from the Lord and excitedly shared the experience with anything with a pulse. Don’t be deceived into thinking that everyone who attends your church is towing the party line. They’re not! If the kids are hungry, they’ll eat from the hand of whoever is willing to feed them. So, feed them! In accordance with this verse, when we receive anything prophetic, or hear about someone who has, do not treat prophecies with contempt, as if they are something that is not from God for The Church today. In these instances, a person, or congregation, may be treating a precious gift of God, sent to edify The Church (1 Corinthians 14:4) as if it were a contemptible thing - at best, coming from man and, at worst, coming from Satan. In addition, we are instructed to test everything and hold on to the good (Matt 18:16, 2 Cor 13:1, 1 Tim 5:19). First Corinthians 14:29 supports this verse by telling us, “Two or three prophets should speak, and the others should weigh carefully what is said.” Such testing should be part of the normal New Testament ministry process. We should encourage people to run the prophecies in question past those they know best (Deut 19:15). There’s wisdom in a multitude of counselors. So, if anyone speaks a prophetic word over you, ask the people who love you and care about you the most. Parents, friends, spouses, ministers, anyone who will have a concerned, objective opinion. Finally, avoid every kind of evil. The devil is a master counterfeiter. Teach the people to beware; while we’re testing the prophecies, don’t forget to test the one who prophesied. What’s their reputation (Matt 7:15-17; Gal 5:22-23)? “Relationship before function” is generally a very good rule o’ thumb to follow. Even when you, personally, may not know the one through whom a word is spoken, does that individual know anybody you know? An itinerant minister, for example, will generally know the one who invited him/her to speak. Once you are sure that you’ve received a word from the Lord, stand in faith, patiently, for that word to be fulfilled. This is called “doing warfare with your word” in accordance with 1 Timothy 1:18. Before I moved to town in January of 2001, I had received some life-changing prophetic utterances from a group of people associated with a Christian friend. These encouraging words were recorded at that time. I have listened to that cassette many times over the years since, checking off each encouraging prophecy that was spoken as it was fulfilled. God “read my mail” that night, with complete strangers speaking about situations they never could have known about had it NOT been God who was filling them in. We often quote Acts 17:11, a verse that has to do with the Jews at Berea, to show the wisdom of filtering all things spiritual through the Word of God. “Now the Bereans were of more noble character than the Thessalonians, for they RECEIVED THE MESSAGE WITH GREAT EAGERNESS and examined the Scriptures every day to see if what Paul said was true.” This proves the importance of examining Scriptures, since the Bereans were regarded as having a more noble character than the Thessalonians for doing so. It also shows - with my emphasis - the importance of actually WANTING whatever the Lord may have for us. In other words, if we have a heart that is closed to new revelation and reluctant to acknowledge that something radical and different from what we’ve known may be the truth, we could be short-changing ourselves. It is probable that no amount of examining Scripture (however commendable that is) will ever change our minds. We need both the eagerness to hear from God and the willingness to check things out by examining Scripture. 2 Tim 3:16-17, “All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the man of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.” The Bible is either the inspired Word of God or it isn’t. It stands to reason that, when we receive anything prophetic, we must ask ourselves, “Does it line-up with Scripture?” Even if it DOES, we must STILL be careful because sometimes a prophecy may go against our own understanding of Scripture. For example, if we’ve been taught that God does not heal today (by the way, there are no Biblical references to support this), then a prophecy about healing might be rejected even though God has actually spoken. JESUS…OR SOMEONE ELSE? Rev 19:10 says, “…For the testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy.” In other words, if a prophecy exalts anybody other than Jesus (especially if it flatters the prophet’s reputation), raise the red flag. One of the most difficult moments to apply this test is when the prophecy is exalting you, as the recipient, or your church. Be especially careful in such cases, as the temptation to get puffed-up is real. Remember: the prophetic should center around Christ Himself and His Kingdom purposes. The main concept of the New Testament is that Jesus is Lord. The word “Lord” is from the Greek “kyrios” meaning “Owner.” When a person prophecies correctly, their core testimony is focused on Jesus. I John 4:1-3 reads, “Dear friends, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, because many false prophets have gone out into the world. This is how you can recognize the Spirit of God: Every spirit that acknowledges that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is from God, but every spirit that does not acknowledge Jesus is not from God. This is the spirit of the antichrist, which you have heard is coming and even now is already in the world.” This is the litmus test for every religious group in the world: what do they say about Jesus and who He is? If there is any wavering on this central point, beware. POINT TO PONDER Not every House Church will include individuals who are gifted to assist in planting and growing a Church. In some cases, an apostlic church-planter may never come, having insisted on going to Asia rather than to Macedonia as he was led. In such cases, the Lord is well able to raise up a spiritually hungry individual who will start planting churches simply because they feel led and because they don’t know that “they aren’t supposed to.” Throughout the ages, God has been faithful to send forth ITINERANT MINISTERS who are gifted prophetically as well. For example, Titus was sent by Paul to the churches in Corinth and Crete. This was a common practice as it was obviously impossible for the original apostles to “go into all the world” all by themselves. To reject these ambassadors of Christ would mean directly rejecting Christ Himself. Sadly, because so many modern Christians have been “snake bit” by false prophets while others have wrongly embraced the House Church concept as a way - they believe - of freeing themselves from any financial expectations or obligations, while an itinerant minister may be willing to go as the Lord leads, The Church too often neglects their basic needs once they arrive. In some instances, The Church puts God’s people out-of-business, just as Satan planned it. In other cases, The Church will not invite these ministries at all out of their failure to understand their valid New Testament role or their failure to see the need for these gifts within their own group. It was also the practice of the early church to provide assistance and comfort to the itinerant ministers, because they cannot possibly survive on their own without the support of other Christians. Personally, I have been on both ends - obeying the Word of God to lend support as well as receiving gifts from those who were obeying God themselves. Loving one another, especially by supporting fellow believers in their ministry, is the most basic practice of every born-again believer. Therefore, believers who refuse to provide hospitality to itinerant ministers who are in need of food and shelter are clearly not abiding in love. Author/Speaker FRANK VIOLA has this to say about the prophetic ministry in the House Church setting. He gives us much to consider. What kind of New Testament-style House Church are WE a part of or are we going to be? He writes: [Regarding what Viola refers to as the First Wave of House Church] Tragically, many “house church” folk reject THE MINISTRY OF THE ITINERANT MINISTER. The reason for this is partly historical. In the late 1960s and early 1970s the United States saw its first move of God outside the religious system. Countless converts were made during this time period. Many of them began to meet in the primitive simplicity of homes without a clergy. Most of these budding “house churches” were populated with young people. Consequently, many clerical leaders felt it was their task to bring stability to the growing movement. A good number of these men left their clerical positions on Sunday and instantly rose to become leaders of the new movement on Monday. In a very short period of time, these men introduced to these simple groups a form of discipleship that eventually squeezed from them all semblance of life. While their motives were noble, they did untold damage to a genuine move of God. The young converts who once knew no human headship were used to spawn international movements (which eventually became full-fledged denominations) built on legalism and authoritarianism. The scores of living, breathing house churches and Christian communities that thrived were swallowed up by these movements. Christian lives were shipwrecked on the rock of a perverted doctrine of authority. The work of God was choked by the hands of men. [Regarding what he calls the Second Wave of House Church] …The peril of the first “house church movement” was the fact that God’s people did not exercise discernment in WELCOMING ITINERANT MINISTERS. They embraced a group of spiritual leaders who were untested. None of them spent any time being trained within the context of an existing house church. Instead, these ministers retained their clerical statuses. They simply switched their sphere of ministry from the basilica to the home. Interestingly, the letter of 2 John speaks to this very problem. There we discover John warning a local assembly not to receive untested workers (2 John 10-11). Regrettably, the second “house church movement” has been plagued by the opposite problem. It has failed to receive those whom God has genuinely sent. Interestingly enough, the message of 3 John addresses this very issue. John makes mention of Diotrephes who would not receive the TRAVELING WORKERS John sent to minister to the churches (3 John 1-11). Teach Your Child to Pray

Thursday, November 15th, 2007

By Jamie Klotz There are so many books out there on being a praying woman, or a praying wife, husband, nation, etc, but I’m not familiar with one about teaching my child to pray. A child that prays can have such an impact on his family, friends, and nation. If we as parents could teach our children this awesome phenonemon, we really could change the world one kid at a time. There are so many things our children could pray for. It doesn’t have to be long an drug out. My children simply say, “Help mommy feel better. Amen.” That teaches them to pray for healing. They could say, “Help us get the money we need to buy a car.” That teaches them to pray for our finances. The important thing is this, we need to teach them. Who else better able to do it than their own parent. You may ask, how can I do this? The first thing you do is, MODEL it. We all know our children are little apes from the get-go. Maybe you’ve heard something along the lines of, “If you don’t want it repeated at a place it will embarrass you most, don’t let your child hear you say it.” Well, model prayer, and you’ll get prayer. If they want to know why you’re praying, or what you’re doing, use that teachable moment and explain it in terms they’ll understand. In later articles I’d like to talk about things we can teach our child to pray about. I am a stay-at-home mother of 4 boys. We homeschool and I have a desire to write so I thought I’d start with an article and see how it goes. I love what I do and want to minister to other mothers and parents and share the knowledge I believe is helpful to others. Welcoming the Out-of-Town Special Event Guest

Wednesday, November 14th, 2007

By Teresa Franko There was a time when families and friends all inhabited the same town or even the same three or four square city blocks. For most of us, that time has passed. Career opportunities and contacts made while pursuing a higher education have led to most families spreading out across the country. However, when we plan the special events of our lives, from Baptisms to Weddings, we want to be with our family and friends to share that day regardless of the distance we live apart. As a result most special events have a number of guests who travel some distance to join the celebration. When a guest outlays a significant amount of time and money to attend a family event, we want to be certain to show our appreciation with hospitality and a gracious welcome. There are many ways that can be done. Perhaps one of the best is with a welcome basket placed in the hotel room. Arriving tired and perhaps hungry after a day of travel, you can imagine how much a basket of goodies would be appreciated by your out of town guest. Welcome baskets can contain an assortment of food and beverage items such as chocolates, popcorn, nuts, pretzels, sparkling cider, bottled water, flavored coffee, candy, cheese and crackers, biscotti, and cookies. When choosing the foods to include it is wonderful if you can include at least some if not all items that are local or regional favorites. For example: California- Ghiradelli Chocolate, New York- Cheesecake, Iowa- Popcorn, Virginia- Peanuts, Georgia- Peach Buds, and Pennsylvania- Hersheys Chocolate Welcome baskets can also be filled with items to make the hotel stay more pleasant such as a cotton throw, linen spray, bath bomb, night-light, shower gel, and travel candle. Every hotel welcome basket should contain a welcoming note from the host. In addition, it is wonderful to add maps, the itinerary for the special event weekend and tourist type brochures. Information that the guest not familiar with the area will enjoy is often available from the local Chamber of Commerce or Visitors Bureau. Hotel Welcome Baskets are often left at the hotel registration desk and given to guests at check-in. Of course, it would be lovely if time permitted you to hand deliver them to your guests after their arrival. From a very small tote bag containing only some fresh baked cookies to an extravagant basket of gourmet goodies, this is the first hint that your guest will have of just how special this special event will be! Something Casual versus Something Serious

Monday, November 12th, 2007

By Vittorio Norman “I don’t do relationships…but we can still hang out if you like” “I don’t want a relationship…so if you still want to hang out that’s great, but if not that’s cool too” There is no reason to lie, spin, or redirect the topic. You just lay it out simply and clearly. You are not being crude. Everyone knows that no-relationship implies something casual, so there is no reason to spell it out. It only becomes a problem if that person reacts badly and starts getting defensive. In this case you cut your losses and move on. They accept your frame and there is no room for discussion. Therefore there is no room for debate on: “I’m not easy you know” “I don’t want a relationship either, but I should tell you I don’t sleep with guys on the first date” These might seem like reasonable objections but they are not. Accepting them or trying to compromise means that you are not firm in your beliefs and that makes you weak. Simply cut your losses and move on. It is obvious that person wants the upper hand. People all over are meeting and interacting with no agenda whatsoever, so there is no reason to feel that you are doing anything wrong. So stick to your guns and stick with those people who fit in with your plans. You will be much happier because of it. Truth About Sinus Headaches

Monday, November 12th, 2007

By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Low_Jeremy] Low Jeremy Sinusitis is a pretty common ailment that afflicts millions of individuals worldwide. The reason for sinusitis is that the paranasal sinuses within our skulls are irritated either by bacteria or allergies that cause the sinus passages to swell and constrict. When this happens, a sinus headache ensues. The areas affected by a sinus headache can be found where the swollen sinuses are which happen to be in the face or check areas, between the eyebrows, and behind the eyes. Sinus headaches can be very sever and is always accompanied by stuffy nose and a persistent green or yellow colored nasal discharge. There are several very effective over the counter cures for sinus headaches and sinusitis. Unfortunately, these treatments have been known to fail among individuals who have mistakenly diagnosed themselves to have sinusitis and therefore suffer from sinus headaches. Studies have been reported to produce results that show that among individuals who think they suffer from sinus headaches, up to 97% of them actually suffer from migraine instead. It was found that people and sometimes doctors mistake migraine for sinus headaches, resulting in false and useless treatments. Imagine suffering needlessly with these supposed headaches and not getting the much sought after relief from use of sinusitis medication. Naturally, if you suffer from migraine and not sinus headaches, you must get migraine specific medication. Otherwise, you will continue to suffer from migraines without getting proper treatment and this of course can result to a serious impediment on the quality of life you deserve to enjoy. It is quite easy to mistake migraines for sinus headaches because some individuals who suffer migraine also suffer from sinusitis like symptoms such as pain in the face area as well as a stuffy nose and ref puffy eyes. Although, people must keep in mind that if it is indeed a sinus headache induced by a sinus infection then along with the other symptoms, the person with sinusitis will have constant yellow or green nasal discharge. Without this, it is not a sinus headache from sinusitis. It could be migraine. To help you and your doctor be able to correctly diagnose the root cause of your headache and determine whether it is indeed sinus headache or migraine, it has been said that it is helpful to keep a headache diary. Amazing Pictures from Flaws or Inclusions Found in Stones!

Sunday, November 11th, 2007

By John Cohen Everyone will I am sure appreciate well hollowed stone antique Chinese snuff bottles, once handled, as the lovely shapes and purity of the stones used just cannot fail to impress. One would imagine that the approach would have been to avoid any inclusions or flaws, and to form the bottle from only the best parts of the stone. This often was the case. But what I find even more fascinating, is the amazing way they deliberately and brilliantly, took advantage of natural flaws and inclusions often found present in these stones. Most quartz and jade stones have an outer layer of a different colour, particularly the pebbles from the riverbeds. They also have faults and flaws plus other coloured material, often deep in the stone. Sometimes these can be very thin skin-like inclusions, whilst in others large chunks are found. When one considers that no one knows just what is inside any of these rocks until, as the cuts are made and the secrets of the stone are revealed, they discover how pure, or otherwise, the stone really is. It is with the stones that have inclusions or flaws that ‘Picture Agate’ snuff bottles are made. The best of these incredible bottles, once completed, manage to make the inclusion, that forms the image, look as if it has appeared in just the right place as if to order! There are different types of work within this group of snuff bottles and the first ones are what we call ‘Cameo’ carvings. These take advantage of any outer skin or blob type of inclusion (of a different colour); they can be quite thick and are carved in relief. Another type is called ‘Shadow Agates’ and these take advantage of markings in the stone where, with the help of only a little carving, an image is created. Lastly, the most fascinating ones are called ‘Silhouette Agates’ but in this group no apparent carving is required. The image is achieved mainly by the angle and choice of shape, as well as the size and position of the bottle to be formed out of the rock so that the inclusion becomes an image. These bottles have to be seen to be believed. What is really mind blowing to me is the fact that there are even some of these bottles with pictures on both sides! Sadly, few of them were signed. We only know that there was a certain school of carvers known as the ‘Suzhou School’. Their works are easily recognised by the style and quality of the carving, plus the fact that they make use of every mark in the stone to form the picture. They are amazing bottles when good, but there are many later works that tend to look too stiff and the carving lacks the more fluid artistic touch of the master carvers. Unfortunately, hardly any of these bottles are really well hollowed. Our First Snuff Bottle So to describe our first purchase, this was a ‘Shadow Agate picture bottle’ involving a little carving, and very well hollowed. It is a most appropriate subject and colour for a snuff bottle because the russet inclusions have been used to show ‘Putai Ho-Shang’. He is always depicted as a very corpulent man with a bare chest and abdomen and he is the patron saint of tobacconists. In this bottle he appears surprised by a bat whilst sitting below some tobacco leaves. The bat to the Chinese is a good luck symbol. You can see how easily he appears, nicely placed within the bottle yet only his head and a suggestion of his hand have been carved. (See the photograph by using the link at the bottom of this article). We owned a number of ‘Picture Agates and to illustrate the different types described, the photograph of the Duck with Lingzhi fungus in its beak is a good ‘Silhouette’ example. Incidentally, the fungus is a symbol for wishing long life. This bottle is very unusual as there is a recess carved originally to create the image that serves as a built in dish. (See the photograph by using the link at the bottom of this article). Lastly, a superb bottle of fishes with pictures on both sides: the pair of fishes on one side are ‘Cameo’ carved and to the Chinese represent fidelity and happy conjugal rights in marriage. On the other side a fish and aquatic plants make use of every mark in the stone, all this on a well shaped bottle that is very well hollowed. All these bottles illustrated were made between 1750 and 1860. (See the photograph by using the link at the top of this article). ASSESSMENT To effectively judge hard stone snuff bottles, the first consideration should be concerned with the overall artistic impression. You need to be satisfied that the work looks well composed and well positioned and that the images formed are flowing rather than stiff and awkward. The next stage is to have a closer look at the technical skills. When I look at a cameo type of carving I study the shape and finish of the background, close to the edge of the carving. On poorer bottles this can be indented, uneven and not so well polished as the rest. Really fine examples look as if the raised cameo part has somehow been glued onto a beautifully formed bottle. Engraved work at its best is very precise and provides the detail. When closely looking (under magnification) at a poor bottle these engraved parts can look very crude. Wedding Boutonnieres - Tips for Achieving the Ultimate Finishing Touch

Saturday, November 10th, 2007

By Paul Ajao Boutonnieres are the ultimate finishing touch to a gentleman’s outfit and provide a sense of style. Here are some tips on how to make sure that the guys in your wedding party look fantastic. Types of Flower Roses are the most popular flower for a boutonniere, but don’t feel that you have to follow tradition. Other flowers that work well include stephanotis, tulips and orchids. If you are on a budget, carnations are a good choice. Choosing Your Boutonnieres The colour of your boutonnieres can be chosen to either contrast or complement the colour of the groom’s outfit. For instance a black morning suit with a burgundy cravat could be complemented by a burgundy boutonniere made from a tulip, calla lily or rose. Alternatively, you could arrange for boutonnieres to be made that mirror the flowers in the bride’s bouquet. Who Should Have Boutonnieres? It is common for the bridegroom, best man, ushers/groomsmen and fathers of the bride and bridegroom to all have boutonnieres. Some couples also like to make boutonnieres available to all who attend the wedding ceremony, but this will be dependant on your budget. To mark him out as special, the bridegroom often has a slightly different boutonniere to the rest of the wedding party. It maybe a different colour, or the florist may put elaborate embellishments on it such as decorative beads, diamante, or additional blooms. How to Wear Your Boutonnieres The boutonniere is worn on the gentleman’s left lapel. It should be worn on the outside of the buttonhole, and not in it. It is common to secure it in place by using a pearl-headed pin from the back of the lapel. This can be done in such a way that the pin will then be invisible from the front. Weddings are generally focused on how special the bride looks. Boutonnieres are an inexpensive way to ensure that the groom looks and feels special too. Unsecured Loans: Quick, Risk-Free Way to Evade Financial Troubles

Thursday, November 8th, 2007

By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=John_Carry]John Carry Want to renovate your home? Wish to go on a much-awaited holiday? Finding difficult to pay outstanding bills? Lifes demands are incessant. Loans are an easy way out but most people are afraid of losing their home to debt collection agencies. Why put your property at risk by offering it as collateral? There are other options to bail you out of your financial troubles. Your need for a hassle-free loan at economical interest rate can be easily fulfilled by an Unsecured Loan. Unsecured Loans are the loans that do not require collateral. Collateral is the security against which the lender sanctions a certain amount of loan to a borrower. The major advantage of an unsecured loan is that you do not stand the risk of losing your precious property just for the sake of mitigating a minor financial burden. Also, they are accessible much more quickly than a secured loan sans any formalities. Conversely, the risk for the lenders is enormous in case of unsecured loans. Therefore, the interest rates in case of unsecured loans are higher than secured loans. Still, you can find some lenders who would be willing to provide unsecured loans at competitive rates. Also, since there is no guarantee to the lender about your financial future, the repayment time is shorter. The end result is more monthly repayment outflow. This can adversely affect your monthly liquidity. In case of borrowers having bad credit histories owing to bankruptcy or CCJs, the lenders are unusually wary of lending large amounts and comparatively charge a higher rate. Nevertheless, if you are confident that you will be able to make payments regularly and do not want to risk losing your family home, lest things go wrong, always opt for unsecured loans. Unsecured loans - contrary to their name, are a very much secure way to get that loan which you always wanted provided you can manage repayments effectively on your own. How to Make Money as a Reflexologist

Wednesday, November 7th, 2007

By Randy Wilson Being a reflexologist is one of the top five career choices in the field of holistic health. The trend shows that more and more people are turning toward holistic practices to enhance traditional medical therapies. Being a reflexologist also allows the practitioner to create a flexible schedule in many circumstances. If you have thought about a career in reflexology, it is time to start getting more information. The first thing you should do is contact the local reflexology association in your area. One such website is for the American Reflexology Certification Board. Although, certification is not required in the United States, for professional reasons, you should be certified if it is available. At the website, you will want to find answers to several things. You can look for schools certified to teach reflexology, licensing and certification requirements, and any other information you think would be helpful to you. Going to school to become a reflexologist is a requirement in most places, even if you dont need to be licensed or certified after graduating. Classes range in duration from six months to one year or more. The class usually is at least 100 hours in classroom time and at least 300 hours practical time. Depending on your location, requirements may vary. You should look for a reflexologist program that focuses on more than the feet and hands. Look for a school that discusses health, nutrition, biology, chemistry, physiology, anatomy, ethics and professionalism. Finding a school that also explains the business side of being a reflexologist is a plus. You may want to consider a school that also offers a massage therapist program. Even if you dont do it now, becoming a massage therapist can add to your income potential and increase your marketability. You may decide to wait to take these classes later, since they are more intense and licensing is a requirement in many areas. As a reflexologist, you will be working with a clients feet and hands for 45 minutes to one hour in a normal session. You should be able to talk with the client before, during and after the session. It is your job as a reflexologist to calm and relax the client while being a good listener. Once you are in the final stages of the reflexologist program, you should start working on marketing your services. From your practical experience, you may have a small client base, but you need a large client base that will continue to grow. You should decide if you want to go to your clients or have them come to you. If they come to you, consider renting space or partnering with a chiropractor, doctors office, podiatrist, or holistic health center. You may also want to check local gyms and spas as well. They may allow you to offer your reflexologist services through the business or they may hire you full time. It is just a matter of going to these different places and selling yourself and your services. If you decide to go to your clients, you will want to partner with doctors, holistic practitioners, chiropractors, and gyms. They may refer clients to you to enhance the therapies their patients are currently receiving. Once you know how you are going to work, you need to decide on the cost of your reflexology services. Some places will dictate the fees you can charge, and others will not. You will need to contact local reflexologists, and ask them about the services they offer and fees associated with the services. This information will give you a basis to work from when developing your own pricing system. You should check reflexologist web sites routinely and subscribe to industry magazines. This will keep you up on new trends, tips, and techniques in reflexology. You may also look at continuing education class at your local community college. Since you may with working with clients in a medical setting, the client may think you are a medical doctor. If this should happened, just gently remind the patient that you are not a doctor, but a trained, certified (when applicable), professional reflexologist. The only other real problem you could face would be if you feel the client is unclean or the clients feet and/or hands have sores, fungus or other diseases. Never feel that you have to accept everyone who contacts you as a client. You need to protect the clients you already have, and that may mean refusing service to others. Let them know they have a problem and should seek medical attention. Tell them to return to you when the problem has been corrected and then you will take them as a client. If you are still interested in becoming a reflexologist, contact the local reflexology association, get more information, and get started. Copyright Randy Wilson, All Rights Reserved.
